“We have created protections in our life, due to our unique stories, to protect our hearts so that we will not be disappointed or hurt again–by anyone, including God.”

Paul McCown believes every man has a story—and that our earliest chapters shape us far more than we realize. While he is neither a licensed counselor nor a pastor, Paul brings a deeply personal perspective shaped by lived experience, healing, and faith. His professional background includes a career in Technology Program Management and Accounting, but it was the redemptive work of Jesus in his own life that compelled him to write.

In his book, Paul invites men to “wake up” to the reality that their life story – especially the early years – continues to influence their present, and that greater soul-level freedom is possible for the years ahead by taking a journey inward.

Paul serves on the board of SOULWELL Ministries in Texas and regularly volunteers on Men’s SOULWELL Journeys, where he has witnessed firsthand the transformative work Jesus performs as men courageously face past wounds and strongholds in their lives. He is currently pursuing a certification in Spiritual Direction.

Paul and his wife, Cathleen, have been married for over three decades and have four adult children. They are members of Watermark Community Church in Dallas, Texas

“If we are unable or unwilling to look at our deepest hurts,
there is no way for them to be brought to the light and healed.”
